Cores/Education in Imaging

The Development and Management of Imaging Core Resources and Services Group/Education in Imaging subgroup is co-chaired by Brian Reynolds, PhD, of Duke University and Katarzyna Macura, MD, PhD, of Johns Hopkins University.

Issues related to imaging cores:

  • Defining what constitutes an institutional imaging core;
  • Creating an inventory of available imaging technology at an institution;
  • Determining what value-added imaging tools can be made available to researchers across the institution;
  • Developing user agreements and pricing strategies for the utilization of both imaging equipment and the consulting services of imaging subject matter experts;
  • Strategies to enhance awareness of the core’s existence and knowledge on how it may provide benefit to investigators; and
  • Examining how an imaging core might provide general guidance and education regarding imaging methodologies to investigators.

Issues related to education in imaging:

  • Educating the broad medical community about imaging's role and capabilities in translational research; and
  • Educating the radiology community and trainees about emerging imaging technologies, successful uses of imaging in translational research at other CTSA institutions and methods of engaging themselves in translational research.

CTSA IWG SubGroups
The CTSA Imaging Working Group members are uniquely positioned to work together to address important questions or topics in clinical and research imaging. As a result of input provided by Imaging Working Group members from many CTSA sites, topic-specific subgroups have been formed. The subgroups meet by conference call and function independently to focus on specific questions of broad interest.
