About the CTSA Imaging Working Group (IWG)
Drawing from experience of the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research and extensive community input, the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) program creates an academic home for the discipline of clinical and translational science at institutions across the country.
A major goal of the CTSA initiative is to develop a national consortium of CTSA institutions that will work together to transform the discipline of clinical and translational research across the country. This union fosters the exchange of ideas with the goal of creating an environment in which treatments progress from ideas to therapies in a highly expedited fashion.
The national consortium of medical research institutions funded through Clinical and translational Science Awards, is working together to improve the way biomedical research is conducted nationwide. The consortiums website, CTSAweb.org, ensures broad access to CTSA resources, enhances communication and encourages information sharing.
The Imaging Work Group: A consortium of leaders in clinical and research imaging
Clinical and research imaging is an important component of many of the CTSA programs. The NCRR endorsed the formation of a consortium of imaging leaders who are dedicated to sharing ideas, visions and technologies and are committed to working together to enhance the utility of imaging in translational research. The CTSA Imaging Working Group was created as a forum for the open interaction of imaging experts to facilitate the CTSA goals with respect to imaging. The highly collaborative nature and intent of this program creates tremendous opportunities for a diverse set of subject matter experts to unify to address complex and important issues in clinical and research imaging.Since the NIH announcement regarding the creation of the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), to which the CTSA program might move, RSNA has decided to suspend active support of the CTSA Imaging Working Group and its subcommittees until the plans and programs of the NCATS are clarified. It is anticipated that this new Center would provide opportunities for investigators to add translational work in the therapeutics development pipeline. Details about the structure and function of this new Center are not yet clear, including leadership, priorities, personnel or programs. We hope that the collaborative partnerships that have formed through the CTSA IWG will continue to influence translational research in positive ways.
